Feathers McGraw is the real hero of Netflix’s new Wallace & Gromit movie

In Wallace & Gromit: Revenge on the Most Birdsthe latest feature film from Aardman Animation and Netflix, Feathers McGraw, the claymation duo’s most feared enemy, is back and he’s out for revenge. In 1993 The wrong pantsWallace and Gromit busted the penguin mastermind for stealing a giant diamond. Feathers was sentenced to life in a zoo. Netflix’s new film opens with Feathers safely locked away and Wallace and Gromit living their lives as local heroes.

But considering Feathers’ absolute diabolical genius, his dedication to being extravagant, and his sheer determination in the face of insurmountable odds, I think he should go free. I understand his desire for revenge.

(Ed. remark: This post contains mild setup spoilers for Wallace and Gromit: Revenge on the Most Birds.)

Allow me to present my evidence: Feathers knows how to take advantage of the bumbling people around him, and use their incompetence to his advantage. In a world where animal companions constantly seem to fall short – Revenge most birds opens with Wallace refusing to pet his dog Gromit, or spend any time with him! Who cares! — Feathers sees through this nonsense and isn’t afraid to take what he wants.

He’s cute too. In a crazy way. With his beady, expressionless eyes and stoic face, Feathers inspires fear. I want to give him a little kiss on his round head. I find it hilarious that he knows how to shoot a gun without any opposable thumbs.

Everything is on the line against Feathers, but he intelligently identifies the best ways to achieve his desired goals by poking holes in the status quo. He turns the community against Wallace, the local hero! He takes advantage of people’s dependence on technology by hacking Wallace’s robot gnomes to become his own henchmen! He takes advantage of the fact that local law enforcement is more concerned about their reputation than actually helping the community!

I’m not defending his crimes. He has indeed stolen a jewel of inestimable value. But just like Ocean 11with Danny and Rusty, Mr. Wolf in it The bad guysand DC Comics’ Catwoman, he has the kind of style and flair that makes him a relatable protagonist rather than a hiss-worthy antagonist. I know I’m rooting for him.

Feather’s Fate Revenge most birds is open to interpretation – perhaps my plea has already been heard, and writers Mark Burton and Nick Park don’t want their feisty criminal penguin sent back to prison any more than I do. But just in case: Let Feathers be free!
