Fears grow for ex-NBA star Delonte West as he’s spotted stumbling and disorientated in concerning parking lot video – days after suffering medical emergency following arrest

Troubled former NBA guard Delonte West has resurfaced after his most recent arrest and didn’t appear to be in the best shape.

Video captured in a parking lot in Alexandria, Virginia, shows the former Boston Celtics star wandering around early Thursday evening.

West was seen swaying back and forth and appeared to be tied up as he continued to hold his hands to his head.

According to TMZWest is known to frequent this parking lot and it is not located in much of suburban DC.

This comes just days after West was arrested after police attempted to serve an arrest warrant in the city of Groveton, Virginia.

He fled and a foot chase ensued. When police finally caught up with West, he was found “unresponsive.”

“Narcan was operated by officers, but [it] did not have the desired effect,” police told DailyMail.com, referring to the overdose emergency medication. “He was transported to a local hospital and Narcan was administered again, which produced the desired effect. West was released from the hospital and transported to the hospital [adult detention center].’

A beleaguered West, 40, was later seen in a disturbing mugshot with unkempt hair and drooping eyelids. He now has to appear in court on Friday and is still in custody. TMZ was the first to report his arrest.

West, a former St. Joseph’s star who became a productive NBA guard for the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, has battled mounting legal troubles since the end of his career. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2008, but he has also disputed that assessment.

West earned more than $16 million during his nine-year career, which ended after his lone season with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011-2012, when he was just 28.

His post-playing life has one unfortunate episode after another.

Two years ago, West was spotted hanging out outside a 7-Eleven convenience store in Virginia, where he appeared to ask people for money.

A year earlier, West was arrested in Florida for resisting an officer without violence and being disorderly intoxicated. The Washington DC resident is said to have witnessed the banging on the windows of a local police station. According to the police report obtained by WPTV.comWest shouted profanities while holding open containers of beer and vodka.

In 2020, West checked into a drug treatment facility in Florida at the urging of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban after a lengthy search by a number of concerned people.

West, a father of two, is still married to his second wife, Caressa. It is unclear if she is currently in contact with West.

Ten months earlier, another viral video showed West being attacked along a highway in Maryland.

Following that incident, West’s former Saint Joseph’s University teammate, ex-NBA star Jameer Nelson, and their former coach Phil Martelli expressed their concerns on social media.

“I’m sick today,” Nelson wrote. ‘Mental illness is something that many people deal with but are not even aware of until it is sometimes too late. I’m not sure what exactly is going on with Dwest, but he knows I’m in his corner and will help him get through this.

“Yes, I’ve been talking to him for the past few months, trying to be there for him as a friend.”

Martelli, who is now retired, responded to Nelson’s statement on Twitter: “Over the last few hours I have spoken to many who are willing to help – read and embrace the wisdom of Jameer – we are reaching out to our basketball network to help the professional to find the help Delonte needs. This is so very painful.’

West first made headlines alongside Nelson and Martelli on a Saint Joseph’s team that went 27-0 in the 2004 regular season and earned a top seed in the NCAA Tournament before losing to Oklahoma State in the Elite 8.

He was then drafted by the Celtics in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft and eventually became a starter alongside LeBron James with the Cavs in 2008.

West continued to bounce around the NBA after that, playing in the D-League and even signing with China, but mental health issues began to overshadow his career.

He even got the chance to participate in Ice Cube’s BIG3 competition, but nothing ever came of that opportunity.

In 2009, he was stopped on a three-wheeled motorcycle, leading police to discover three firearms on his body. He ultimately pleaded guilty to weapons charges and was ordered to undergo psychological counseling, in addition to probation and community service.

In 2016, a photo emerged of him begging in a suburb of Washington DC, but it has never been proven that he was actually homeless at the time.
