Fears for missing British father, 60, who vanished in Tenerife after facetimeing his family

Desperate searches are underway for a British father who disappeared on holiday in Tenerife just days after FaceTimed his family.

Paul Wrigglesworth, 60, was last heard from on December 16 when he made a video call from the Big Ben pub on Avenida Juan Carlos.

The father’s mobile phone has been mysteriously offline since December 22 and his relatives, including his son Mark, are now concerned he may be sleeping on beaches or in caves.

Wrigglesworth arrived on the party island at the end of November and has now been reported missing.

“Anyone who has news about my father, good or bad, please contact us,” Mark said.

Following the disappearance, an appeal has also been launched by local Facebook group for missing persons, Missing Persons Tenerife.

The appeal, posted on December 29, reads: ‘British tourist Paul Wrigglesworth, who is 60, has been missing from Los Cristianos since approximately December 16, 2024, when he last contacted his family via FaceTime from the Big Ben pub on Avenida Juan. Carlos 1.

‘He arrived in Tenerife at the end of November. His phone has been offline since before December 22 and he has said he no longer has his passport.

It comes after a British electrician went missing in Tenerife for four days last month after his phone battery died.

Kris Finney, from Ramsbottom in Greater Manchester, flew to the Canary Island to meet friends but never made it to the meeting.

Fortunately, Finney was found safe four days later after the FCDO contacted local police in Tenerife and the British Consulate contacted several hospitals on the island.

Earlier this year, British teenager Jay Slater also disappeared in Tenerife in June after trying to walk back to his accommodation after a music festival in Playa De Las Américas.

A month-long search involving police, mountain rescue teams, volunteers and Slater’s family and friends took place as authorities raced to locate him.

But tragically, Slater’s body was found on July 15 by a Spanish Guardia Civil mountain rescue team in a ravine near the village of Masca.

Officials said his death was caused by trauma related to a fall.
