WASHINGTON — The FBI said Tuesday it is investigating the unauthorized release of classified documents detailing Israel’s preparation for a… possible retaliatory attack on Iran.
White House National Security Spokesperson John Kirby said Monday that the Biden administration still exists not sure if the secret information was leaked or hacked but that officials currently have no indication that “additional documents such as these will find their way into the public domain.”
The Associated Press reported this on Saturday U.S. officials investigated the release. The FBI first confirmed the investigation on Tuesday, saying in a statement that it is “working closely with our partners in the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community.” It made no further comment.
The documents are attributed to the National Agency for Geospatial Intelligence And National Security Agency and note that Israel is still moving military assets to conduct a military strike in response Iran’s blistering ballistic missile attack on October 1. They could be shared within the ‘Five Eyes’, an intelligence alliance consisting of the US, Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
The documents, which are marked top secret, first appeared online on Telegram’s messaging app on Friday and quickly spread among Telegram channels popular with Iranians.
