FBI officials met with House Oversight Committee staff on Monday but were unable to provide the subpoenaed, unclassified report from Chairman James Comer allegedly linking Joe Biden to a “criminal scheme” to gain access to money.
As a result, a committee aide told DailyMail.com that Comer is expected to announce next steps “soon.”
Monday’s meeting comes after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said the FBI is about to hand over the potentially damning document after speaking with FBI Director Chris Wray.
“I wanted to be clear with the FBI director,” McCarthy told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.
He confirmed that he had a telephone conversation with Wray, adding, “Congress has the right, and we have the jurisdiction, to oversee the FBI.”
The Republican allegations mark a major update in the Republican ‘influence peddling’ investigation into the Biden family and Hunter Biden’s overseas business deals
“I explained to the director that we will do everything in our power, and [that] we have jurisdiction over the FBI – that we have the right to see this document,” McCarthy continued.
“I believe after this call we will get this document.”
Comer and Senator Chuck Grassley wrote to Wray in a letter Friday night marking nine days since the deadline passed, calling it “unacceptable.”
“The credibility of the FBI is at stake, and their continued lack of cooperation will have long-lasting consequences,” Grassley said.
The FBI missed the deadline at noon on Wednesday, May 10 to provide the document, angering Republicans who said FBI Director Chris Wray could face “consequences.”
Grassley, R-Iowa, and Comer, R-Ky., recently revealed that a whistleblower had made astounding claims about the document, which they say outlined the plan that Biden was involved in when he was vice president, and an unrelated named foreigner.
The internal FD-1023 form apparently spells out an “arrangement” for an exchange of money for policy decisions, Republicans said.
The Republicans issued a subpoena to FBI Director Christopher Wray demanding that the document be handed over with a May 10 deadline — which was not forthcoming.
Grassley said that while the FBI has not provided the document, they have offered a “matching process” that indicates the “document is genuine.”
He said last week’s response letter to top Republicans only raises additional questions, including “whether the FBI has an open investigation based on these allegations.”
Lawmakers say it remains unclear what, if any, steps have been taken to investigate the matter, which is concerning given the “significant public interest” in the FBI’s response.
The FBI confirmed to DailyMail.com that it issued a response to Republicans last week, but disputed Grassley’s claim that it proves the existence of the specific document alleged by the whistleblower.
“An FD-1023 form is used by FBI agents to record unverified reporting by a confidential human source. Documenting the information does not validate it, establish its credibility, or weigh it against other information verified by the FBI,” a spokesman said.
Disclosure of unverified or potentially incomplete information could harm investigations, jeopardize prosecutions or legal proceedings, dishonestly violate privacy or reputation, create a false impression with the public, or potentially identify individuals who provide information to law enforcement, thereby their physical safety is at risk.
“Information from confidential human sources and members of the public is critical to the work of the FBI, and we are also committed to protecting the confidentiality of anyone who comes forward.”
The subpoena for the document marked a major update in the Republican investigation into “influence peddling” in the Biden family and came just hours after a report said prosecutors were on the verge of deciding whether to criminally charge Hunter Biden in his tax. – and weapons investigations.
Iam Sams, White House spokesman for oversight and investigation, called the GOP subpoena for the document “baseless” and “politically motivated.”
The House Oversight Committee released a new memo specifically outlining the Biden family’s ties to Romanian “influence peddling” and a web of LLCs while Biden was vice president
The House Oversight Committee has accused 10 members of the Biden family — including Hunter and Hallie — of being involved in ‘shady’ business deals that took advantage of the family name
“The information provided by a whistleblower raises concerns that then-Vice President Biden may have engaged in a bribery scheme involving a foreigner,” Comer said.
“For five years now, Republicans in Congress have been lobbying against baseless politically motivated attacks [President Biden] without providing evidence for their claims. Or evidence of decisions influenced by something other than US interests,” he claimed.
Sams added that Biden was “unprecedented” with his level of transparency, releasing a total of 25 years’ worth of tax returns to the US public
The House Oversight Committee has accused 10 members of the Biden family — including Hunter and Hallie — of being involved in “shady” business deals that took advantage of the family name.
Earlier in May, the committee released a new memo specifically outlining the Biden family’s ties to Romanian “influence peddling” and a web of LLCs while Biden was vice president.
It also accuses President Biden of a “lack of transparency” regarding his family’s receipt of money from China, which he said is “untrue.”
It details the family’s attempts to hide, hide and confuse sources of money — including more Chinese money, according to a commission aide.
The White House refuses to correct the president’s statement. The president is now using the federal government to intervene for his family and his own role in these plans,” Comer said at a news conference announcing the memo Wednesday.
