Video footage has emerged of Dr. Anthony Fauci and Washington DC Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser making a series of house calls during the pandemic as they tried to convince vaccine-hesitant residents to get shots of the coronavirus.
In a clip released from a new PBS documentary about the 82-year-old Fauci, who retired on Christmas Eve, the former chief medical adviser to the President of the United States can be seen going from door to door, only to be turned away by one owner after another, who are not convinced of the benefits of the jab.
In the footage, shot in 2021 at the height of the pandemic, Fauci faces questioning from a man in Anacostia, southeast D.C., who adamantly refuses to receive the vaccine despite the fact that the nation’s former top physician it tries to offer several reasons why it should.
Fauci and Bowser visited that part of the nation’s capital because it was historically an African-American community with low vaccination rates.

The man, whose name is not shown in the images, can be seen confronting the well-known doctor and mayor, claiming that Americans are not satisfied with the information they have received about the vaccine.
Expresses reluctance to get vaccinated due to perceived lack of clarity around the vaccine.
“I’m not going to line up to get vaccinated for something that wasn’t clear in the first place,” he says.
He is skeptical about the seemingly short time it took to develop the vaccine.

“Nine months is definitely not long enough for anyone to get the vaccine that all of you came up with,” he says.
Bowser tries to justify the vaccine by explaining that he was able to talk to the man up close due to the fact that he had been vaccinated, and emphasizes that if many people don’t get vaccinated, the virus will continue to spread.
‘The only reason I’m talking to you right now, as close as we are, is that I’ve been vaccinated. If thousands of people like you do not get vaccinated, you will allow this virus to continue to seep into this country and into this world,β Bowser said.
‘Something like the common flu then, right?’ the man interrupts.
The man is not convinced, questions the official data and expresses further doubts about the various incentives offered to people to get vaccinated.
“When you start talking about paying people to get vaccinated, when you start talking about incentivizing things for people to get vaccinated, there’s something else at play with that,” he says, holding firm on refusing to get the shot.
“Nine months is definitely not long enough for anyone not to get the vaccine they came up with,” he says.

‘His campaign is about fear. It is about inciting fear in people. You all attack people with fear. That is what this pandemic is. It is a fear, it is fear, this pandemic. That’s it,” rants the resident skeptic.
Fauci and Bowser also face skepticism from another woman who questions the efficacy of the vaccine in preventing infection.
‘I heard that [the vaccine] it doesn’t cure it, and it doesn’t prevent you from getting it,’ she says.
“No,” Fauci replies. βOn the very, very, very rare chance that you get it, even if you’re vaccinated, it’s very, you don’t even feel sick. It’s like you don’t even know you got infected. He is very, very good at protecting you,β he protests.
Fauci tries to assure him that although the chances of infection after vaccination were minimal, the vaccine provides excellent protection.
At the time, vaccination data on Bowser’s website revealed at least 60,000 COVID cases in the city.
During their conversation, Bowser asks Fauci about the states that had not mandated the vaccine, to which he replied that such states would simply allow the outbreak to persist.
At another point, Bowser asked Fauci, ‘What are we going to do with those other states?’ referring to states that refused to require the vaccine.
“Oh my gosh, they’re going to keep the outbreak dormant in the country,” Fauci responded.
‘Is very crazy. I mean, they’re not doing it because they say they don’t want to. They are republicans. They don’t like being told what to do. And we have to break that down, unpack that,’ he said.
