Father-of-six is killed in horror accident while visiting Texas city for his birthday

A father of six was killed by a hit-and-run driver while celebrating his upcoming birthday and five-year anniversary with his wife.

Dustin Dorcz, who had children ranging in age from 6 to 18, was traveling with his wife Lindsey Dorcz from their hometown of Lufkin when he was struck by a car on the shoulder of eastbound I-10.

The horrific accident occurred in the early morning hours of September 15 and Lindsey was not with him at the time.

Lindsey said a witness told her that “my husband was standing very close to the guardrail, well off the road.”

Houston police are still searching for the driver who killed Dustin, 35. There is no official suspect or description of the vehicle. KHOU 11 reported.

Sergeant Dallas of the Houston Police Department’s Traffic Crimes Unit spoke to KHOU 11 the night of the fatal crash.

“There was a witness who stayed at the scene, but unfortunately the driver left,” she said.

Lindsey tearfully pleaded with the driver to admit what they had done and come forward.

“If that person is watching this, maybe God can work through you and you can give my husband the justice he deserves and be honest,” she said. “I’ve been in a haze for the last eight days without my husband.”

According to Dustin’s obituaryhe died just ten days before his 36th birthday on September 25.

“Dustin enjoyed barbecuing, wind therapy on his motorcycle, fishing, dancing, singing and always being the life of the party. But most of all he loved his family. Dustin was a 100% family man. He had many great friends who he considered family as well,” his obituary read.

In 2023, 807 pedestrians were killed in car accidents in Texas.

“We’re going to get to the bottom of this because this shouldn’t be happening — lives shouldn’t be taken. Think of my family that’s hurting right now … think of my children who don’t have their father,” Lindsey said.
