Fast and Furious finale could get 3 parts if Vin Diesel has anything to say about it

Fast X isn’t quite the end of the long-running Fast & Furious movie franchise, but it sets things up for a bombastic finale – which may not actually come.

Talking to Fandango reporter Naz Perez on the red carpet for the Fast X premiering in Rome, Italy, star Vin Diesel seems to suggest that the Fast farewell tour will be expanded to three films.

“When making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-part movie,” said Diesel. “And after the studio saw this part one, they asked, ‘Can you make it Fast Xthe finale, a trilogy?’”

Diesel’s comments – which he dropped just before playfully ending the interview with Perez – could imply that the plan for the Fast final has changed in recent weeks. Original, Fast X was intended to be the first of a two-part conclusion to the Fast Saga, featuring Fast X director Louis Leterrier returns to the helm of an 11th and presumably final film.

However, it’s worth noting that Universal’s wording on the finality of that has been pretty coy – releasing a statement to The Hollywood Reporter calling the next movie would be “a companion”. Fast X.

Polygon has reached out to Universal for comment.

Regardless of how many episodes are left, it’ll be a while before we actually say goodbye to the Fast Family – the sequel to Fast X will not premiere until 2025, and if it turns out that we are facing a three-part finale, the end will come even later.

Fast X will premiere in theaters May 19, 2023.
