“Do not use these types of hangers, especially if you are a petite woman under a size six,” Kahane began.

“You don’t want to use these for tops, dresses, sweaters, jackets,” she continued.

The stylist revealed that hanging your clothes on velvet hangers will stretch the shoulders of the garments, explaining that the size of the wardrobe accessories, combined with the fact that they catch on the fabric of your clothes, can lead to disaster to lead.

She also showed why this happens, revealing that the width of the pendant is usually much greater than the width of her own shoulders.

“So if you put a top on it, it will stretch out the top and the shoulder area, so your sleeve doesn’t quite fall where it should, and it creates a little dip,” she said.

“You don’t want that, it will ruin your shirts.”

The solution?

Instead of buying velvet hangers, Kahane recommended buying child-sized hangers.

Goodbye, velvet pendants! Alternatives to use instead

  • She also recommended using a plain old plastic hanger
  • And while it’s an “unpopular opinion,” she said wire hangers from the dry cleaners can hang clothes well

“They’re very similar, they look the same, but they won’t stretch your tops,” Kahane said.

She said she mainly used children’s hangers to hang her pants.

“Something they recommended as well, I mean you can get the wooden hangers that everyone else has, but just the normal, plastic hanger.”

The fashion stylist held up a velvet hanger next to a plastic one to compare the two, showing that the plastic curves downward to “follow the shape of your shirt.”

She also talked about the importance of keeping your hangers out of the dry cleaners.

“One thing that a lot of closet organizers tell you to get rid of, and that I hoard, is dry cleaning hangers,” Kahane said.

“I know this is an unpopular opinion, but you can see here that the way they go down matches perfectly with where my sleeve ends,” she admitted, adding that the shirts don’t stretch and don’t take up much space to take. space in the closet.

At the end of the video, she joked that she was “sorry for bursting everyone’s bubble” when it came to velvet pendants.
