Ed Sheeran will be surprised in the new comedy Sumotherhood.
The singer, 32, has been spotted in the trailer for rapper-director Adam Deacon’s new film, with a synopsis describing the film as a “parody of the British urban genre”.
Ed will play a homeless drug addict in the film and can be heard saying in the clip: ‘Hey, what are you talking about’
It’s unclear to what extent Ed will appear in the new film, but it will be a rare case of him playing a character rather than himself on screen.

Earlier this year, a source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Ed plays this guy who’s homeless and looks like a crack addict. It was shot some time ago, but the work on the film is almost finished and hopefully it will be released this year.
“The casting makes it intriguing, and especially everyone wants to see Ed.” He doesn’t have a big part in the film and although fans will recognize him immediately, they’ve never seen him look like this.’
It has also been confirmed that Jeremy Corbyn will be joining the cast of Summerhood, which was filmed in London last year.
In his brief appearance in the trailer, the politician, 74, simply says “let it go, you spendthrift”.
It is not clear whether he is playing himself or a fictional character, but his wardrobe appears unchanged from his days as Labor leader.
Jennifer Saunders and Denise Van Outen will also appear in the film.
Written by Adam Deacon, Michael Wu and Jazzy Zonzolo, Sumotherhood is also directed by and stars Adam Deacon, and the film feels like an action spoof of his previous ventures Kidulthood and Adulthood.

“Once they come up with a variety of ways to make some money, they decide to rob a megastar in a nightclub restroom and hold up the local bank, but things inevitably don’t go as planned…
“However, somehow a misunderstanding leads to them being coveted and acquired for a job with one of East London’s toughest firms, putting them in the firing line of the firm’s biggest rivals.” Can Rico and Kane live up to their name?
“Will Rico win Tamara’s favor and if he does, will Tyreese, Tamara’s crazy half-brother, allow Rico to live?”
“Will his life be worth living if the local London feds draw a line on our duo?” Anything can happen when Rico and Kane are on stage in this action-packed new urban comedy.’

Adam Deacon – who also appears in the film as well as directing – previously promised the film would “celebrate the diversity of life” found in modern east London.
He said: “We are so excited to have this amazing cast join the project that brings these wacky and crazy characters to life.
“More than ever, we’re celebrating the diversity of life in East London in 2022.” And darkly authentic, as well as embracing the colorful and diverse lifestyle of an East London estate.
‘This film will be an explosion of fun with action and comedy at every turn, while also hitting some serious subjects with raw emotion and harsh reality.’
Sumotherhood hits UK cinemas from 13 October.
