Fashion expert breaks down the most popular designers in each state across the United States

Have you ever wondered what the most popular designers and brands are in each state?

In the South, shoppers love preppy holiday brands like Lilly Pulitzer, while women in the Northeast tend to opt for workwear brands like J. Crew.

To find the most popular designers, FEMAIL received data from Poshmark And Pay afterwards – and looked at Google Trends analytics by state – to discover where women are shopping and what they’re searching for and buying.

“The state you live in largely determines your exposure to brands and what’s trending in your area,” Chloe Baffert, head of merchandising and curation at Poshmark consumers, told DailyMail.com.

Chloe explained that people “consciously or subconsciously” “look to the people around them for brands they wear,” which “becomes even more apparent when you visit a new state.”

“The state you live in has a huge impact on your exposure to brands and what’s trending in your area,” says Chloe Baffert, head of merchandising and curation at Poshmark Consumers.

The South

“Each state has distinctive brands that represent the style of its residents. Lilly Pulitzer, for example, is synonymous with Palm Beach and Southern resort style. It is one of the most purchased brands among Poshmark shoppers in Florida and both North and South Carolina,” says Chloe.

And when it comes to Washington DC, which is officially in the South but defies categorization, the emphasis is on sustainability.

“In socially and politically focused states like the nation’s capital, we see a direct correlation between purchasing brands with a sustainable focus, like Reformation, and brands with a meaningful mission, like Chantecaille, a luxury beauty brand with a strong philanthropic ethos,” Chloe explains.

Athleisure is also on the rise in the Southern states: Lululemon is the most popular brand in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Maryland.

In North Carolina, female shoppers are currently looking for Tuckernuckthe preppy website that sells various designer clothes, such as colorful summer dresses from Alexis and classic denim from Agolde, but also its own brand.

According to data from a financial services company, people in Alabama also like to shop at Gus Mayer, a local women’s clothing store To digwho looked on Twitter to see which brands were the most talked about in each state.

According to Google Trends, Alabama women are also shopping online at fast fashion retailer Fashion Nova.

According to data on top stores from YelpIn Arkansas, people also love Target shoppers and in Kentucky, they love Marshall’s.

The Northeast

If you spend time in the Northeast, you can expect people to enjoy quiet luxury.

“The typical preppy style, previously known as trendy, quiet luxury, and the East Coast go hand in hand,” says Chloe.

“J. Crew is one of the most purchased brands by Poshmark customers in New York, Maine, Virginia, and Connecticut,” Chloe continued.

But it’s not all about preppy style: In Connecticut and Rhode Island, boho-chic brand Free People rules Poshmark, and in New York and Pennsylvania, shoppers are buying Lululemon secondhand.
