‘Take a bow!’: Fans go wild as Australia’s Mitchell Duke scores a stunning back header against Tunisia…with supporters comparing it to Javier Hernandez’s impromptu try for Man United in 2011

  • Mitchell Duke opened the scoring with a header for Australia against Tunisia
  • It was an impromptu attempt, as he headed back into the corner
  • Fans cheered his effort and compared it to a similar goal by Javier Hernandez

Fans are stunned by Mitchell Duke’s remarkable header to give Australia the lead in their World Cup match against Tunisia.

With the ball fractionally behind the striker, he somehow managed to produce a backward header that flew into the bottom corner of the net.

His goal has been compared to a similar effort Javier Hernandez scored for Manchester United against Stoke in 2011, with fans calling on Duke to ‘take a bow’ after his incredible header.

‘What a beautiful game. Sensational goal. Mitch Duke takes a bow,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“That’s an absolutely brilliant finish from Duke,” agreed a fellow supporter.

“Chicharito header,” another fan added, using Hernandez’s nickname to refer to how Duke’s goal was similar to his.

Duke currently plays his club football in Japan for J2 League outfit Fagiano Okayama.

He is playing in his first World Cup and his header was his first goal on the biggest stage.

One fan cheekily pointed out that he now has an edge over Poland’s Robert Lewandowski when it comes to finding the net in World Cups.

“Mitch Duke, more World Cup goals than Robert Lewandowski,” they wrote on social media.
