Fans on social media were quick to poke fun at Steven Gerrard after Aston Villa demolished Brentford, just days after his resignation as head coach.
The 42-year-old was sacked on Thursday after a string of poor results left him just one spot above the league’s relegation zone after losing six of their first 11 games.
And after Villa took a 3-0 lead within the first 15 minutes of their game against Brentford – just three days after his sacking – fans were quick to suggest that the Liverpool legend was ‘holding them back’.

Fans were quick to bring up Gerrard’s name after their brilliant start from Villa, with one fan writing: ‘3-0 this is unreal. Gerrard really held us back.’
Another wrote: ‘Villa makes Gerrard a fool… 3-0 after 15 minutes.’
In a rather brazen comment, one fan said: ‘Proof that Steven Gerrard should never run a Premier League football club again. #AVFC’

The Midland side, led that day by interim boss Aaron Danks, have scored as many goals in 14 minutes as they have in their last six games under Gerrard.
