After being tasked with protecting arguably the greatest footballer ever, Lionel Messi’s personal bodyguard takes no chances to ensure his safety.

Messi completed a lucrative move to Inter Miami this summer after ending his turbulent spell in France with PSG, heading to the United States to experience a new league and culture at the age of 36.

But not only did the franchise, owned by David Beckham, lure one of the greatest footballers of all time to Miami, it also hired one of its most vigilant bodyguards to protect him.

Fans watched Messi’s personal security watch his client like a hawk during Inter’s recent win against Orlando, patrolling the touchline to keep an eye on him after his opening goal in the Leagues Cup match.

One wrote on X: ‘These people don’t joke with their greatest asset’.

A third joked, “Bro scans like prime xavi. Messi in safe hands.’

Another said, “His eyes are always panning.”

While one concluded, “Miami takes good care of the GOAT.”

The alert bodyguard has also been seen watching Messi as he walked up and down the pitch, catching a jersey thrown at the Barcelona legend from the stands and blocking intruders on the pitch from getting to him.

Miami revealed its plans to ramp up security ahead of Messi’s arrival, generating a level of attention not seen in American football since David Beckham signed for LA Galaxy in 2007.

Speaking to the Miami Herald, owner Jorge Mas, who led the charm offensive to get Messi to the United States, said in June: “Security will obviously be improved. Players are brought in by buses and go through a tunnel. All those security protocols are already prepared, both here and on the road. And it’s not just for our games.

“It’s going to be an everyday occurrence and something that we witnessed and I thought was handled really well when (Messi) was here with Argentina for the World Cup.

“As you may remember, Argentina trained in Miami before flying to Doha. We had the opportunity to see something of the Messi mania at our doors every day during training. So we are very prepared. We have prepared for this.’

It wasn’t long before Messi mania swept the United States, with the Argentina captain having been harassed by fans on several occasions since moving to the country.

One even approached him in his car and got a kiss from his hero while he was waiting in traffic.

On the pitch, Messi has certainly lived up to the hype, scoring nine goals in his first six games to propel Miami to the Leagues Cup final, where they will attempt to win their first-ever title.
