Fans rip ‘vile and barbaric’ Panthers rookie Xavier Legette after posting squirrel-hunting video
Social media users were disgusted by a video of Carolina Panthers rookie Xavier Legette chasing, skinning and cooking a squirrel.
On Friday, a video of the wide receiver went viral when he showed a partially skinned squirrel in hand and said, “We took the squirrel out of the tree and opened it up. Take his clothes off.’
The video was then cut into a clip of the animal, cut into pieces and placed on a grid.
As more than 2.9 million users watched the 20-second video, fans took to the comments section to express their – many of them sickening – reactions.
‘This is disgusting and barbaric. This is also why I’m vegan,” one user wrote.
‘Wtf? He should be suspended,” another suggested.

A third user wrote that Legette “should be arrested for animal cruelty.”
“Someone let him know he can hire a private chef and never have to do this again,” shouted a fourth.
While many disagreed with Legette’s hunting style, others insisted that what he did did no harm.
“All I know is that if s*** hits the fan and I have to hunt for food to survive, I want to be with this guy,” one fan commented.
“He hunts and takes care of himself. He doesn’t hit women and has 27 baby mamas. Calm down,” said another, referring to Tyreek Hill.
His love for bizarre meat comes as no surprise, as Legette previously brought a container of raccoon meat to the Panthers’ locker room to share with teammates and media members — at least those bold enough to try it.
During Thanksgiving, Legette appeared on the St. Brown Podcast with Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown and shared his favorite foods.
“I don’t eat the peppers and all that extra stuff… That stuff is too exotic,” Legette told reporters Thursday. ‘The [raccoon] is regular for me. I’ve been eating that since I got out.’
The Panthers drafted the South Carolina native with the 32nd pick in 2024. Legette finished his first season in the NFL with 49 receptions for 497 yards and four touchdowns.
