  • Manchester United play Wrexham in a pre-season friendly in San Diego on July 25
  • However, fans are furious with the prices on Ticketmaster to see the game.
  • United’s top first-team stars will not be in the game against Wrexham

Fans are furious on social media after ticket prices for Manchester United’s friendly with Wrexham in San Diego this summer surged.

Earlier this week it was announced that the Red Devils will play the National League team, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, at Snapdragon Stadium on July 25.

Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster to watch the game at the 35,000-seat venue, which is the home of the Women’s National Soccer League team, the San Diego Wave.

The notable Hollywood story of the Red Dragons, which follows the Disney Plus series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, adds intrigue to the showdown.

But fans criticized the “completely insane” ticket prices to go see the match, which won’t even feature United’s top stars, with resale tickets costing £283.

The Red Devils will play the National League side on July 25, though Erik ten Hag’s side will include young players and those on the fringes of the first team in place of his strongest squad.

George Biagi suggested that his money would be better spent saving up to fly to Wales and see them at the Racecourse Ground.

He said: ‘The ticket prices are fucking disgusting. I am so discouraged. The cheapest seat at the moment is $125 on the upper deck, the most expensive is $700.

“I’d rather save my money and fly to Wales next year and watch Wrexham at the Racecourse after they’re promoted.”

Oli Winton said it was “absolutely crazy” to see what they think a United youth and reserve team will be playing in San Diego against Wrexham.

Winton reported prices behind the goals at $250 and behind the top level at $180.

A fan from the USA suggested that he would rather pay to fly to Wales and see Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground.

Another fan described the prices as “outrageous,” while a fan account from USA Wrexham wrote: “Scalpers are in force… that’s what happens when you partner with Ticketmaster on ANYTHING.”

@WrexhamTexans commented: ‘This is crazy! We were planning a @WrexhamTexans visit but these ticket prices are actually higher than flights from Dallas/Fort Worth!

“He may come for the experience, but he’s not going to the game to pay nearly a thousand dollars for the family to watch a friendly game.”

Another follower wrote: “As a lifelong fan four of us plan on visiting the US but won’t be attending any Reds games at those prices, WTF.”

Mike Fitzpatrick tweeted: “I looked at the ticket prices and they are RIDICULOUS. I live about 45 minutes from the stadium, and for decent seats for a family of six, it was almost $2,000 for this preseason friendly.’

Gareth Williams added: ‘Unreal it isn’t! $780 (£635) for four of us (two adults and two children) just can’t justify the cost. That’s more than my three season tickets.
