A petition to put the late Steve Irwin on new Australian $5 bills has surfaced online.
Petitioners Vincent Wu and Kirby Miles are behind the move and have posted the petition on the Australian Parliament House website.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II and the proclamation of King Charles III raise an important question about the future of Australia’s currency.
“No one is more important to Australian culture and identity than Steve Irwin. Steve is loved by all and has become synonymous with the Australian values we hold dear,” it continues.
‘He embodied the spirit of friendship; he loved Australian wildlife and worked hard on conservation and education, but perhaps most importantly, he’s just a good guy.

“This should not be seen as a step away from the crown, but a step towards honoring a much-loved Australian hero.
“There’s so much more to say about Steve, but the bottom line is, we should be honoring a true Australian hero.
“That’s why we’re asking the House to change the face of the $5 bill to Steve Irwin.”
It comes after the Reserve Bank of Australia released a major update on the future of Australia’s $5 bill, which iconicly depicts Queen Elizabeth II’s face.
The move may not be popular, as the petition has garnered only 66 signatures at the time of printing.
Known to millions of people around the world as “the Crocodile Hunter,” Irwin died on September 4, 2006 at the age of 44 after being stabbed in the chest by a stingray while filming a documentary about the Great Barrier Reef.
It comes after the Reserve Bank of Australia released a major update on the future of the Australian $5 note, which iconicly depicts Queen Elizabeth II’s face.
