Fans have called for Danny Welbeck to be included in the next England squad after he continued his stunning form against Wolves.

The 33-year-old has been productive this season, scoring five goals in Brighton’s nine Premier League games before joining Gary O’Neil’s side, including two in his previous two against Tottenham and Newcastle.

Welbeck took his tally for the season to six with a clinical finish to put Brighton ahead at home to Wolves.

And fans have been full of praise for the ex-Manchester United and Arsenal striker, claiming his bright form has earned him a return to the England squad.

A fourth posted: ‘Danny Welbeck is England’s most in-form striker,’ while a fifth said: ‘Welbeck for England.’

Welbeck’s strike against Wolves means he is just three goals behind his best league tally in a season which saw him score nine goals for United in the 2011/12 campaign.

Welbeck’s last appearance for England was a 1-0 friendly win over Switzerland in September 2018.

He will be hopeful of returning to the ranks when Lee Carsley announces his squad for the Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
