Fans heading to London Stadium this summer for the MLB World Tour can enjoy mouth-watering American snacks – including a TWO THOUSAND calorie ‘Boomstick’ hot dog – as baseball prepares to return to the UK in June

  • The St. Louis Cardinals take on the Chicago Cubs from June 24-25 in the London Series
  • The London Stadium has prepared a range of US-inspired food options for fans
  • A 1.5kg 60cm ‘Boomstick’ hot dog will be the main offering

Baseball is back in London next month, and as the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals prepare to hit balls to the moon and spin their pitching arms at up to 100 mph, a few stars will also be seen in the stands .

Weighing in at 1.5kg, packing a 2000 calorie punch and measuring a whopping 60cm in length, the ‘Boomstick’ hot dog is the headliner in a range of delectable dishes available at the London Series.

Designed to feed a family of four, the Boomstick is the brainchild of Bruce Deacon, head chef at London Stadium, aiming to beat the 3,000 sold at the last London Series in 2019.

To make the Boomstick, Deacon takes a two-foot-long sausage, scoops a dollop of cheese sauce on top, and adds a pound of chili just to be on the safe side. Then come the jalapenos and salsa, before it’s topped with sour cream and served in a custom container. It only takes a few minutes to put together and, remarkably, it can be polished in about the same time.

“It was very popular last time (in 2019), we had a lot of eating competitions around it,” says Deacon. “We had a guy from the army, he managed to eat one in two and a half minutes. That’s the record.

“He had to change his shirt afterwards, but it was pretty amazing to see him do that. We recommend that it is for two or three people, but each to his own.

“We sold 3,000 in 2019 without people really knowing, so now that people know a little more about it, we want to ramp it up and see how many we can sell.”

If hot dogs aren’t your thing, you can indulge in the Boomstick nachos – also 2 feet long and again packed with chili, jalapenos and salsa.

Elsewhere in the halls of London Stadium, which takes three weeks to convert from football stadium to baseball field, fans can try a host of other American-inspired dishes.

These include the St Louis Donut Burger – two patties on top of a donut and topped with bacon crumble, cheese, dill pickle salad and bacon mayonnaise.

Then there’s the Chicago Cheesy Brisket sandwich, a mix of savory brisket and American cheese with a sweet caramelized onion glaze.

And if you prefer British-sized hot dogs, there are four different varieties, topped with everything from Chicago Sweet Relish and Chili Cheese to Pico de Gallo and beer mustard.

If that leaves you a little dehydrated, don’t worry – 10 new bars are opening in London Stadium’s East Stand to quench your thirst. And fans don’t even have to get out of their seats, as the American ballpark “peddlers” arrive and perform their traditional duty of delivering your drinks and snacks right to your seat for you.
