After former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis passed away on Monday at the age of 35, footage surfaced of two of his former teammates, LeSean McCoy and Tre’Davious White, telling the story of how Davis felt guilty during halftime of a game withdrew.

Davis played his final NFL season with the Buffalo Bills in 2018 and withdrew from a Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Chargers after the second quarter.

White remembers Davis first making the decision on the sidelines, telling his teammates and coaches, “I’m done!” repeatedly.

When White questioned him, believing Davis meant this was his last season, or that he was just joking, Davis corrected him by saying this was his last game.

During halftime, teammates saw Davis take off his wristband. He never played in the NFL again.

Vontae Davis was found dead in Florida on Monday. He was 35 and retired from the NFL in 2018

“Why the hell would you go through OTAs (organized team activities) and camping if you’re going to do this s***?” Davis said laughing with McCoy.
