Fans go wild for ‘insane’ Patrick Mahomes behind-the-back pass to Travis Kelce: ‘That’s a wrap for the rest of the NFL’
NFL fans were treated to a pre-season moment of brilliance from Patrick Mahomes on Saturday after he made an “insane” behind-the-back pass to Travis Kelce.
Andy Reid is known for not giving his starters much time before the regular season begins, but those in attendance at Arrowhead got a glimpse of two superstars against the Detroit Lions.
Mahomes and Kelce came together strongly from the start and it didn’t take long for their connection to become apparent, with a magical moment midway through the first quarter.
Mahomes faked a pass to his running back, ran to his right and then incredibly threw the ball behind his back to give Kelce space at the 30-yard line.
Kelce was able to catch the ball and gain a five-yard lead before being brought down at the 25-yard line.
The moment quickly went viral on social media, with fans reacting in disbelief to the inventive play.
“This is insane,” one commented, to which another added, “Oh, and this ends the rest of the NFL.”
Another X user wrote: ‘New move unlocked… that kid is just bored!’, while another was more skeptical, saying: ‘I dare him to try that in the regular season.’
Regardless of what moves Mahomes and the Chiefs make in the regular season, they will certainly be a Super Bowl contender again if they make their third straight appearance in February.
Mahomes, Kelce and Co. have won the Lombardi Trophy the past two seasons and are looking to do the same this time in New Orleans.
Their recent success has been accompanied by a huge surge in popularity, largely due to Kelce’s ongoing relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift.
Swift attended most of Kelce’s games last season and is expected to do so again this season.
