Snow Patrol have confirmed that their comeback album, titled The Forest Path, will contain twelve songs and is written by Gary Lightbody, Nathan Connolly and Johnny McDaid.

Speaking about one of the album’s new singles, which was written as the group embarked on a trip to Somerset, Gary said: “The first day we wrote ‘The Beginning’, start to finish,” per NME.

Johnny added, “And he did the vocals in one take. Immediately after writing the lyrics. So there’s something mind-expanding about it, where you feel like you’re looking into someone’s soul.’

Expanding on the thoughts and ideas that went into recording the songs from the new album, Gary continued: “I haven’t been in a relationship for a very long time, ten years or more, so long-distance love for me meant the way a relationship went. is in your memory from a distance of, for example, 10 years.

“That’s not something I had thought of before as a way to write about love. So it’s like, when you’re in love, you’re standing in the lobby of the Empire State Building. Once you break up with that person, you’re out on the street.

‘You can still see the building, but you are no longer in it. And ten years later, you’re now standing in Brooklyn looking at the Manhattan skyline.”

Due to the album tour in February 2025, Snow Patrol will play sets in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Hull, Glasgow, Manchester, Dublin and Belfast.

The announcement of a comeback tour and new album comes after former bassist Paul Wilson and ex-drummer Jonny Quinn left the band last year.

Guitarist Nathan Connolly also launched a solo career last year, releasing his debut album The Strange Order Of Things.

Johnny will be missed by his fiancée, former Friends star Courteney Cox, 59, who previously revealed he dumped her a minute into their first therapy session – just so they could get back together.

Speaking to the Minnie questions podcast last month, she said: “Johnny and I broke up five years ago. So three years later we broke up and it was really intense. We broke up in therapy.

‘I didn’t know it was coming. Whether I should have done that or not, it was like going to this therapist to talk about our boundaries—what we could and couldn’t accept from each other.

“Instead, he broke up within the first minute. And I thought, “What?” And we were engaged. And I was so shocked, I was in so much pain, I don’t like surprises either.

“I’m so grateful for that breakup because when we got back together it was a different relationship, but also because it really taught me how I operated in the world — what were the things from my childhood that I needed.”
