Fans flock to Wetherspoons as it prepares for the European Championship

Wetherspoons is expected to report a rise in sales and profits following the broadcast of the Euro 24 matches.

Most of the 809 pubs have broadcast, except for the 21 that do not have televisions.

Spoons doesn’t normally show live sport, but relented for the 2022 World Cup, and is expected to see revenue rise 6 percent for the current quarter.

Profits are expected to come in above expectations at £75m for the year.

Analysts say strong beer sales during the tournament, which saw England reach the semi-finals, may have softened the impact of a wet June.

Derren Nathan of Hargreaves Lansdown said: ‘England’s fortunate progress will not damage hospitality turnover, but that may be offset somewhat by the wettest spring since 1986.

‘Investors will be watching for any changes to the guidelines.’

Wetherspoons will publish a trading update on Wednesday.
