Fans destroy college basketball coach as pre-game dig at opponent backfires in disastrous fashion

Before taking over as head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay basketball team, Doug Gottlieb made a living as a college basketball analyst and appeared on national television and radio.

His first season coaching did not go to plan as the Green Bay Phoenix were 2-10 on Wednesday before facing Division II Michigan Tech.

Gottlieb didn’t do himself any favors before the game, telling reporters at a news conference that there is a method to scheduling games against Division II opponents: “Part of the reason I want to play against better teams is… it’s two degrees outside, it’s snowing, you know, I don’t really like the idea of ”Nobody U” coming in here… I always thought: “what are we learning, playing a game where we win by 20”, but there is a methodology On .’

Well, ‘Nobody U’ came out on top. In a hot dose of hubris, Michigan Tech knocked off Wisconsin-Green Bay 72-70 on Wednesday afternoon, causing social media to mock Gottlieb for poking the bear.

What’s more is that Gottlieb – for some bizarre reason – still does his daily national radio show/podcast, in addition to his position as a coach.

Well, his show was supposed to air about an hour after the game and when fans of the sport tuned in to hear what Gottlieb had to say, they were instead met by a replacement host.

Green Bay college basketball coach Doug Gottlieb lost to a school he called “Nobody U.”

Gottlieb then skipped his nationally broadcast radio show while a substitute stepped in

Social media began to scrutinize Gottlieb and laugh at his embarrassing defeat.

Adam Hobson, a player on the Michigan Tech basketball team, tweeted: “Merry Christmas from Nobody U!”

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports tweeted: “Green Bay loses a buying contest to Michigan Tech. The height of rudeness, referring to the fact that Green Bay probably paid Michigan Tech to play them.

College basketball content creator Cole Adams tweeted the final score along with a photo from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

That refers to a Twitter feud that Schefter and Gottlieb got into earlier this week, after Gottlieb openly questioned the NFL insider’s reporting of the NIL war chest at another school, Sacramento State.

Schefter brutally roasted his counterpart saying, “Jeezus, Doug. A seven-game losing streak and a last-place finish in the Horizon League? Less time on social media and more time in the gym.’

Another user, @CurryHicksSage, tweeted: “Everyone is understandably on about Gottlieb, but it’s the [athletic director] who deserves the criticism here? He was the one who thought it was a good idea to hire a talk show host with no college coaching experience and have him host the talk show.”

John Rich of Barstool Sports tweeted, “Doug Gottlieb is like a Looney Tunes character who steps on a rake every time he leaves his house.”

College basketball fans began humiliatingly trolling Gottlieb after his loss

Gottlieb then responded bizarrely, saying he wasn’t critical of teams on his schedule, but did so while tweeting a video of himself sounding critical of a team on his schedule.

After being repeatedly targeted online, Gottlieb decided to respond, but did so in an extremely contradictory manner.

He quoted the video of the pre-match press conference, but bizarrely claimed: ‘Done with this nonsense. We have planned. Including Michigan Tech. Nowhere have I been critical of anyone on our schedule, despite the fact that he tweeted the video critical of D-II schools.

Gottlieb also discussed the reason for his absence in his radio program FrontOfficeSport‘I had a match at eleven o’clock. The matches last two hours. I start recording my pod every day on 1. Live at 2am. There wasn’t time to do it.’

According to the college basketball analytics site Ken PomGreen Bay ranks 329th out of 364 teams nationally in the statistics. The site also expects them to win only two more games this season, both at home.

Green Bay is now 2-11 and is on an eight-game losing streak. They are last in the Horizon League, with an 0-3 record.

In college, Gottlieb played basketball on a scholarship at the University of Notre Dame – before losing the free ride to school after stealing a classmate’s credit card and using it for fraudulent purchases.

He went on to play at Golden West College and then Oklahoma State before turning pro with brief stints abroad.
