Viewers of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final between Coventry were left furious after VAR ruled Coventry’s last-minute goal in extra time was marginally offside.

Coventry almost completed one of the most memorable comebacks of all time as their side came from 3-0 down to take the tie at Wembley to extra time.

The Championship side then thought they had secured victory when Victor Torp turned the ball home in the 121st minute.

However, the celebrations were short-lived when VAR intervened and ruled that Haji Wright was only slightly offside in the build-up.

And fans couldn’t believe such a moment was taken away by such small margins.

One wrote on X: ‘that’s not what football is about. VAR ruined one of the greatest FA Cup moments ever. A teenage offside. Give me a break. Coventry should be in the final. Completely pathetic.’

Another wrote: ‘VAR kills all sporting joy. Coventry were robbed of one of the greatest moments in their history because Wright’s toenail was offside.’

After the match, Coventry boss Mark Robins said: ‘Bitterly disappointed, I’m proud too.

‘Someone said to me: I don’t think any team has been this close to a final without getting there. We deserved to go through, we were 20 seconds away and a toenail offside, it’s ridiculous.
