Fans of Kylie and Dannii Minogue have petitioned Melbourne Mayor Nick Reece to rename an alley in the city in honour of the superstar siblings.
Lifelong fan Eliza Day started an online petition on Monday calling for an alley in the CBD to be renamed Minogue Lane in memory of the iconic sisters.
“They are undeniably pivotal figures in pop culture,” she told the Herald Sun.
“Their contributions to the music industry, combined with their tireless dedication, love and support for the LGBTQIA+ community, makes them worthy of this award.”
Day said she started her petition after a street in West Hollywood, California was recently renamed Kylie Minogue Way.
“My first thought was, why don’t we have Minogue Lane in Melbourne? They’re kind, warm and generous with their time and they’re Melbourne girls through and through.”
Mayor Reece responded to the petition: ‘Melbourne is fortunate to be able to name one of our iconic alleyways after the famous Minogue sisters.

‘We recognise the significant contributions Kylie and Dannii have made to our city – both as pop icons and as ambassadors of Melbourne to the world.’
Unfortunately, the petition on change.org does not comply with the Victorian Government’s naming regulations, which do not allow locations to be named after living people.
However, band names are allowed and in 2004 a lane in the CBD was renamed AC/DC Lane, in honour of the legendary Australian rock band.

Another alley was named Amphlett Lane in 2015, after Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett, who died in 2013.
Kylie Minogue and her sister Dannii are two of Australia’s most iconic pop stars and have similar career paths.
Both began their careers on long-running Australian soap operas – Kylie in Neighbours and Dannii in Home and Away – and went on to build music careers, selling millions of albums.
