Fans blast Bruno Fernandes for his ‘AWFUL’ penalty against Chelsea as he gets his ‘worst impression of Jorginho horribly wrong’ with Robert Sanchez saving his ‘pathetic’ spot-kick

  • The Manchester United captain missed an early penalty against Chelsea
  • Bruno Fernandes' tame effort was comfortably saved by Robert Sanchez
  • Manchester United have snakes in the dressing room, players who don't run. Bruce, Robson, Keane would never allow this… It all starts

Bruno Fernandes has been ridiculed for his penalty miss against Chelsea on Wednesday, which denied Manchester United an early lead at Old Trafford.

The United captain was given responsibility for the penalty after Antony was fouled by Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the penalty area.

Fernandes relied on his usual hop-skip-and-jump routine in the build-up but timidly struck the ball to the right of goal, allowing Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to make an easy save.

Sánchez had saved just one penalty in the Premier League before denying Fernandes, with the shot-stopper also saving James Ward-Prowse's 12-yard strike earlier this season.

United eventually took the lead against Chelsea thanks to Scott McTominay's opportunistic close-range finish, but football fans were unimpressed by Fernandes' poor shot.

A spectator responded on Twitter: 'Terrible penalty from Bruno. Simple save for Sánchez'

Another added: “Pathetic penalty from Bruno Fernandes,” after Sánchez celebrated his penalty heroics.

Some drew comparisons between Fernandes' penalty miss and the way Arsenal midfielder Jorginho prepares himself before taking a penalty.

Both players have adopted a similar style, which has largely worked, with Fernandes missing just three Premier League penalties before Wednesday.

“LMAO….Bruno doing his worst Jorginho impression and doing it horribly wrong,” was the response from one online user.

Another joked: 'Bruno, you jumping dummy. Terrible pen.'

The 29-year-old is United's main penalty taker but recently handed over to Marcus Rashford against Everton before the England international was relegated to the bench against Chelsea.
