Fans all say the same thing as NBA star Kristaps Porzingis is asked about playing on MLK day

Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis was asked Monday night about playing on MLK Day — and fans were stunned by his answer.

Porzingis, who is Latvian, did not appear to know who Martin Luther King Jr. was when asked if he would face the Warriors over the holidays.

‘It’s huge. Have a lot of fun today,” he told TNT. “Good thing we had some police escorts to come to the arena. And on holiday it’s always fun to play.’

And fans agreed after the awkward interview that the Liepaja, Latvian-born player was unfamiliar with the civil rights icon.

“He probably has no idea who that is,” one said on X.

“A white European being asked about a civil rights icon is a crazy setup,” said another added.

“Who is the idiot (his & idiots?) greenlit and asking a white dude from Latvia about this?”, a third fan asked.

And a fourth said“He has no idea.”

Others suggested that Porzingis may have interpreted the question as a matter of Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.

Porzingis, who played just 19 games this season due to injury, had 18 points and seven rebounds as Boston won 125-85.

The win moved the Celtics to 30-13 on the year – still 6.5 games behind the Cavs for first place in the Eastern Conference.
