Those eager to try out the next version of macOS will be happy to hear that Sequoia is almost here.
Normally we expect a new macOS somewhere between September and November, but MacRumors claims that this will be the premature end of that period.
Sources have told the site that macOS 15 is coming out in mid-September (and that goes for your own skepticism as well), which means we could be expecting Sequoia within a few weeks.
That theory is supported by an additional tidbit here, namely that iOS 18 is expected to launch in mid-September (as every version of the mobile operating system has been launched for a long time now) and that Apple wants to release macOS Sequoia at the same time due to the shared features.
Of course, we’re talking about the big iPhone Mirroring functionality coming to macOS 15, so it makes sense that both new operating systems would launch at the same time, with that capability fully operational, and that these new cross-platform capabilities would be shown off.
The most likely date for this dual reveal is September 10, based on Apple’s previous revelations.
Analysis: Putting the Pieces Together
We heard earlier this week that the latest iOS 18 beta would be the last , and if MacRumors is correct in its assertion here, macOS Sequoia should also be in final testing. Mind you, we haven’t heard any rumors of this elsewhere – yet – and besides, does it really feel like macOS 15 is even close to being released?
We don’t know for sure, but if this really plays out as rumored, we’ll know soon enough. To be fair to MacRumors, it certainly makes sense for Apple to get its OS puzzle pieces in place for iPhone Mirroring.
Of course, there’s one more important piece of the puzzle, and it won’t be in the initial release of iOS 18 or macOS 15: Apple Intelligence.
These AI features are being tested in a separate macOS beta (15.1, for developers), and are expected to arrive in a later update—likely October, MacRumors theorizes. And just as likely, Apple Intelligence will arrive alongside new MacBook Pro M4 models (and other Macs), no doubt offering some illustration of just how well the M4 SoC executes the AI capabilities.
