Fan shouts ‘O CANADA’ to Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies as he touches the ball during Manchester City’s emphatic 3-0 win over the Bavarians

A fan during the match between Manchester City and Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night decided to constantly remind Alphonso Davies which country he plays for.

Throughout the first half of the game, a fan repeatedly chanted just the first two words for “O Canada” whenever Davies touched the ball.

Davies, a starter with the Canadian national team, just played in his first FIFA World Cup with Les Rouges this fall in Qatar.

But his performance on the night in Manchester was lacking – as was the rest of the team – as Bayern lost 3-0 to City in the first leg of the quarter-finals.

Davies played 81 minutes, completing 52 of 53 pass attempts and firing a single shot off target.

Meanwhile, Manchester City managed to break through early thanks to a wonderful strike from Rodri from outside the box.

The second and third goals were attributed to defensive errors.

Dayot Upamecano turned the ball a few yards from his own penalty area and a perfect cross from Erling Haaland found Bernardo Silva’s head.

Minutes later, a smashed cross found the head of John Stones over Davies and Benjamin Pavard. The Stones ball found Haaland – who had not been marked by Upamecano – for the easy turn in turn.

The second leg of the game will take place on April 19 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
