Fan pulls off the most outrageous one-handed catch during Women’s Ashes match – and impressively doesn’t spill a drop of his beer!

One spectator produced one of the most outrageous catches we’ve seen so far this year, and perhaps even more spectacular, he didn’t appear to spill a drop of his drink at the same time.

Australia and England went head-to-head in the first ODI of this summer’s Women’s Ashes Series on Sunday, with the hosts claiming their first victory.

It was an impressive all-round performance from Ash Gardener, combined with a half-century from Alyssa Healy, to guide the hosts to a four-wicket win in the first match of the series.

The win will give Australia a two-point lead in the series, but Healy’s side remain cautious not to become too complacent, with the memory of England’s comeback in 2023 still fresh in their minds.

The tourists would set Australia a target of 204 after Heather Knight’s side were bowled out in the 43rd over.

Knight produced a captain’s knock, achieving the highest score (39) for her side and was closely followed by Danni Wyatt-Hodge (38) before being dismissed by Annabel Sutherland.

A bizarre moment occurred midway through the first innings when Amy Jones, hitting 31 off 30 balls, launched Annabel Sutherland towards deep square leg for six.

It was a huge strike, with the ball crossing the boundary line before flying into the crowd.

But one spectator was there to produce perhaps one of the catches of the year.

The gentleman, who was enjoying the match with a beer in hand, plucked the ball out of the air with his right hand before falling backwards.

Even more impressive, it didn’t appear the man had spilled a single drop of his drink when he grabbed the miracle catch.

The sensational moment sent the commentary box into meltdown as fans surrounded the gentleman and ran over to celebrate the epic moment.

“That was the most important part to be honest,” the fan told Seven Cricket’s Trent Copeland when asked how he held the beer.

‘I had to juggle a bit, but the beer was the most important moment. Pretty proud.”

He then delved into what was going through his mind when he made the catch with the fan named Jack Bragg, saying, “There was no technique, it was just catching the ball.

‘That’s it. Besides the beer and the ball, there was nothing else that mattered.”

“Unbelievable,” Copeland added.

Gardener would dismiss Knight, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Lauren Bell for a total of 3-19.

She later hit an unbeaten 42 off 44 balls, in what was a player-of-the-match performance.

Healy also suffered a fantastic blow when he was dismissed by Charlie Dean for 70 runs off 78 deliveries.

After the match, Gardener admitted she had a lot of confidence, but added that her team would not become complacent.

It comes after Australia took a 6-0 lead in the 2023 Ashes before England came back to level the series at 8-8.

“I gained a lot of confidence in what I was able to do in the New Zealand series,” Gardner told reporters.

“Contributing with both bat and ball was something I wanted to do to start the series well and instill some confidence in the back end of this series.

“We know there is still a long way to go in this Ashes series.

‘We realized that quite quickly in England, last time we were six nil up, and then that was chased down quite quickly. We could play great cricket but England are such a good team and they always find a way.”
