Family’s epic surprise for Doordash worker takes heartbreaking turn when driver shares personal tragedy

A DoorDash delivery driver received a stunning musical surprise when he visited a family home, but he also sadly shared his own heartbreak as he shared their joy.

The emotional moment began when Kyle Philippi’s family started singing a song from Disney’s Hercules as soon as the driver pulled up to the door.

But it wasn’t just Philippi’s family who were ready to put on a grand show. In the hallway stood American Idol runner-up Clark Beckham dressed in ancient Greek garb.

Musicians on piano and guitar provided the melody as he began singing I Can Go The Distance. The Philippi family provided support with all sorts of props, including a starry sky backdrop, peacock feathers and a beautiful sunset made of fabric.

The driver was so moved by the presentation that he shared how meaningful it was to see happiness after losing his daughter last year.

At the beginning of the show, the DoorDash delivery driver seemed completely bewildered as family members began to talk, one of whom even handed him a wad of $10 bills as a token of appreciation for his time.

Beckham took on the role of Hercules and sang the song as he slowly climbed the stairs to the second floor of the house.

The serenade ended with a shower of confetti falling from the runway, while the driver still stood in the doorway and ultimately received a $100 tip.

It was clear that the experience brought a sense of joy to the driver, who thanked the performers before revealing his own sadness.

“You guys are amazing. This was amazing,” the man said, humbled by the experience.

“This was the best DoorDash I’ve been on in two years. I don’t even play. This was amazing.”

With tears in his eyes, he shared that he had lost his daughter last year and that he was working at DoorDash to earn some extra money.

“I wish we could do more than that,” was the sincere response from Philippi, who manages the family’s Instagram account with nearly 16,000 followers.

“You guys keep this up. This is great,” the driver added.

“We call it a bit of ‘joy comes with freedom’ because we just want to spread joy to people and just have some fun. We want people to know that there are just random, fun acts of kindness out there,” Philippi explains.

The entire hall of the house was decorated with sheets for the performance

“God bless you,” the man said to the family gathered in the hallway.

The fun stunt clearly had an effect on the driver. As he walked back down the path, he was caught by a doorbell camera saying out loud to himself:

“That was amazing!” he said again.

The melodious moment also won the hearts of viewers, who posted a series of positive comments after the performance.

“You brought a spark of joy into that man, you can see it in his eyes,” one user wrote.

“You never know what people are going through!!” said another.

“This is the most wholesome thing I’ve ever seen. Well done guys x,” added a third.

“Wow this was beautiful, that man opened up,” wrote one commenter who was moved by the show.

“This is so beautiful… I know I would have cried out loud laughing the whole time. It’s so touching and WE need this! I hope this is something you guys continue,” praised one fan.

“This is the kind of bullshit I crave in my life. If I was the Door Dasher I’d join in,” another user posted.
