‘Family values’ GOP senate hopeful who’s former MLB star ‘shuns two love children and ices out daughter without warning’ while making videos for strangers on Cameo: Chaotic love life inspired Golden Girls gag

A former MLB star turned aspiring GOP senator who claims he is a family values lawmaker has been accused of neglecting three of the seven children he had by four different women.

Steve Garvey, 75, launched a bid last year for the California Senate seat previously held by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

The former LA Dodgers and Padres standout is campaigning as a conservative moderate who hopes to bring “moral integrity” and “personal responsibility” back to Congress.

One small problem is that at least three of his seven children say these are qualities their father does not possess, as evidenced by his abandonment and/or abdication of his parental duties for years.

Garvey rose to fame in the late 1980s when it emerged that he had impregnated two different women at the same time before marrying a third. He had spent much of the decade portraying himself as squeaky clean – and he was proud of it.

The fiasco inspired a bumper sticker that read “Steve Harvey is not my padre” and even a joke in the iconic sitcom The Golden Girls.

Although Garvey was once adored by the public for his squeaky clean reputation (in addition to his skill with a bat), two years after his MLB retirement in 1989, Garvey got two women pregnant at the same time and married his current wife – who was not one of the the two who were pregnant.

He said that both pregnant women, to whom he was engaged for a while, lied to him about using birth control.

That spring, in an episode of “The Golden Girls,” elderly grandmother Sophia Petrillo, played by Estelle Getty, uttered the line, “I just hope I don’t carry Steve Garvey’s baby,” to the audience’s hysteria led.

However, Garvey vowed to accept “the moral and financial responsibility” of the illegitimate children because “there is a right way and a wrong way to deal with moral situations, and I believe it is the right thing to do.”

After a court-ordered paternity test revealed that Garvey was the father, he was ordered to pay child support.

At the time, he was also going through a messy divorce from his first wife, with whom he had two children. Garvey had three more children with his current wife of 34 years, Candace.

But in a recent statement to the LA timesthe two love children – both 34 years old – said they never had any form of tangible relationship with their father at any point.

Slade Mendehall and Ashleigh Young wrote, “Several attempts were made through lawyers to arrange a meeting or even a phone call with Mr. Garvey during our childhood, but he declined every opportunity.”

“So we never knew him, and our only relationship with him was through the family court system.”

Mendenhall, a lawyer in Georgia, and Young, a homemaker stationed in Japan with her husband, a Navy officer, say they still have close relationships with some of their half-siblings.

One of those half-siblings is Garvey’s eldest daughter, Krishna, 49.

She told the Times that despite not being particularly political, she thought voters should know that her father’s reality does not match the model he is selling during his campaign.

Garvey was married to Krishna’s mother, Cynthia Garvey, from 1971 to 1983.

She told the newspaper that Garvey stopped contacting her 15 years ago for reasons unknown to her.

One day, she says he told her over the phone, “this is how it should be, Krish,” and ended the relationship.

She further condemns her father for not trying to have a relationship with her three sons, his grandchildren.

“He has not been accountable, not to his family,” she said.

According to the Times, Krishna burst into tears when she was told that her father is selling personalized messages for $149 each on the popular celebrity short-form video app Cameo.

She called it “wrong upside down” that he makes those videos for strangers but doesn’t acknowledge the existence of his eldest daughter.

While Garvey is making some progress in the California polls (some show him just behind front-runner Rep. Adam Schiff, others show him in fourth place) his daughter says he may have the look of a trustworthy politician, but deep inside he doesn’t have that. have the content of one.

‘I think my father is very simplistic. He can tell you a good, stupid dad joke and keep it very superficial and light-hearted,” she said.

‘He can talk about something very well, and he can sell something. What’s underneath that? It’s doubtful.’
