Family outraged after being told their baby isn’t actually buried at grave they’d been visiting for years

A grieving couple demands an apology after discovering their daughter is not buried in the grave they have been visiting for years.

Bryan and Katie Black of Lexington, Kentucky, have regularly visited their daughter Avery’s grave since she tragically died at birth seven years ago.

They said they often decorated the grave and visited with their two young children, but arrived at the site heartbroken on Memorial Day to find her headstone missing.

Avery’s headstone had been moved nearly 30 feet from its original location. The parents were stunned to learn that her body and grave had been in different locations since her burial.

When Avery was born, Katie said she was devastated that she had to go through the birth without being able to celebrate her new baby.

“I still had to deliver, deliver her, everything. We just couldn’t take her home from the hospital,” she told Arizona Family.

The couple say they still visit “several times a year” with their two young children.

“Birthdays, sometimes the Fourth of July, just to decorate and spend the holidays that we don’t get to share with her,” Bryan said.

But Katie says their regular visits since the discovery have left a mark, because they have “photo after photo after photo of all our children in that place, and it all happened in a different place.”

She said they contacted the Lexington Cemetery to ask why their daughter’s grave had been moved, and the cemetery told them the new location was the correct one.

“The man who came forward very defensively to talk to us about what had happened kept saying, ‘No, she’s buried here, she’s buried here.’ And I said, how do I know that for sure?” Katie continued.

“It took seven years for them to realize that her body and her marker were in different places. I know it’s not her, it’s just her body, but I feel like I haven’t visited her.”

They said they would like to receive a formal apology from the cemetery, but so far they have not received any positive response.

“We asked them to give us actual proof of who signed it and who actually dug it up. Is this where she’s supposed to be?” Bryan said.

‘All we get is scribbling, no response and no sympathy.

“I want a written formal apology. I want a public apology. I want an apology to everyone they impact.”

The grieving couple added that they still have no proof that the new location is correct and have only been given a hand-drawn map showing the grave site.
