Going out with a bang! Heart-warming moment family give beloved grandfather an explosive send off by sending his ashes up into the night sky on fireworks

This is the heartwarming moment a family sends their beloved grandpa packing by scattering his ashes on fireworks.

Paige Anderson of Petersfield gathered with her family at a nearby beach to commemorate the life of her grandfather Tom.

His ashes were stuck to the fireworks with Vaseline before being set off as the sun set over the sea.

Moving images show the fireworks rising above the ocean view, lighting up the sky with red and orange hues.

Mrs Anderson said: “Our whole family was very close to him. We all have so many individual memories with him, which is just amazing.

“He named me Croc because he told me there were crocodiles living in the bottom of his garden when I was little.”

The family always wanted a Viking funeral, but realized this was not possible and decided this was a suitable replacement.

Mrs Anderson added: ‘He always said he wanted a Viking funeral, which is obviously very illegal now and he loved fireworks so they thought this would be the next best thing.’

“We considered doing it with a company, but it was quite expensive, and he was very frugal with his money, so he would have told us to do it ourselves.”

‘The fireworks were coated with Vaseline and then dipped into the ash so that the ash covered the top of the fireworks.’

‘The only way we could think of it, and it worked! Very meaningful, we all felt like he was with us, and it was just the most emotional way to say goodbye.”

‘It’s not for everyone, but it really is a beautiful farewell.’
