  • It appeared the camera focused on one specific home in California
  • Apparent target James Dimapasok said his family was terrified

A California family was left terrified after a hidden camera disguised as a rock pointing at their home was discovered.

The device, hidden in the mud next to a sidewalk, was found by the neighbor of apparent target James Dimapasok, who said he and his family are baffled as to why anyone would want to record them.

β€œI was scared,” he said KTL. “My wife was crying.”

After reporting the camera to the police, Dimapasok discovered he could download video from the camera and catch a glimpse of the perpetrator.

The footage downloaded from the camera showed the suspect brushing away dirt to hide the camera while wearing gardening gloves, a blue shirt and a bicycle helmet.

The perpetrator rode a scooter to and from the crime scene, which Dimapasok feared had been deliberately placed outside his home, possibly to demonstrate a robbery.

β€œIt was a camera covered in clay that looked like a rock, so it was very precise,” he said.

The resident added that he found out that the camera was powered by a wireless power bank, which meant the camera would be left there for a while.

Police told Dimapasok that the camera was broadcasting via local cell towers and may have been used as a live stream of the neighborhood.

While searching for the perpetrator, Dimapasok also checked his Ring doorbell camera, which captured a different angle of the deployed camera, but was too far away for a clearer description.

When asked why anyone would want to record his street, Dimapasok said he was in the dark.

“I don’t know,” he said. ‘I really do not know.’

His neighbor, Julissa Castillo, offered another chilling theory when she pointed out that the street is often used by children walking to school.

β€œA lot of them do, especially on that street,” she said. “It almost makes me worry that they might be looking out for a certain child.”

Dimapasok said he is beefing up his home security system while the case is still under investigation by the San Bernadino Sheriff’s Department.

In a message to the suspect, he said: ‘I have no money… So whatever you do, whether it’s money or anything, I have nothing and I don’t know why you are doing it. Just stop.’
