Family arrives at vacation Airbnb to find almost every surface covered in ‘insane’ lines: ‘Is this a museum?’

A US Airbnb host has been criticized for leaving guests with a ‘ridiculous’ amount of rules tacked onto all surfaces of the property, including potted plants and doorknobs.

Beckyfrom Texas, went on a weekend getaway with her family and some friends – but the sight of their rental “took away the holiday feeling.”

The group was dissatisfied with finding labels on cabinets, beds, doors, walls, and more with passive-aggressive warnings.

Most of the rules warned tenants against touching vulnerable property β€” including a supposedly 10,000-year-old dividing wall that would “break” if looked at the wrong way.

Other notes discouraged tenants from “pushing” or “pulling” the microwave door, touching potted plants, or flipping the handle on an antique door.

Becky walked through the premises and wrote down some lines and videotaped her process.

“I don’t get it, the rules posted all over the house just killed me,” she said.

β€œIt seemed like every room and every surface had a note. It almost felt like it wasn’t a holiday with so many rules.’

Some of the comments were reasonable, such as letting tenants know the microwave was automatic and didn’t need to be slammed, or asking not to clean marble countertops with abrasive cleaners.

But others left Becky wondering why the property was rented out in the first place.

A note was found on a large wooden display cabinet that read: ‘Antique and fragile. Please don’t try to open or pull buttons.”

All the bedrooms in the property had a large warning pasted above the beds stating that jumping was not allowed and that ‘any breakage of beds will be immediately passed on to the tenants’.

Shelves of copper utensils and potted plants were considered “for owner’s use only,” and tenants were instructed not to touch them.

The wooden dining table was also considered vulnerable, with a large note that read: ‘This was our grandmother’s table. Be kind to it and use a placemat.”

“On departure, please leave all furniture and bedding in the respective rooms and houses where they were originally found,” the latter said.

Many were confused about the owner’s decision to rent such a fragile property to strangers.

“It sounds like this stuff doesn’t belong in an AirBnB,” said one woman.

β€œNever put sentimental, priceless or antique items in an Airbnb,” wrote another. “They’re all packed with the same IKEA showroom furniture for a reason.”

β€œI think they’re in the wrong business. Maybe they wanted to open a museum,” one man joked.

“Why the hell do they have so much personal or sentimental stuff in a rented space?” asked a fourth.
