A family was shocked to find three giant wasp nests the size of “space hoppers” in the attic of their new home.
Eve Ault, 25, and her family moved into the Macclesfield home about five months ago, but only recently moved into the attic after finding a new entrance.
They were left in disbelief when they poked their heads into the cramped roof space and found three gigantic wasp nests perched on the wooden beams.
Ms Ault claimed the nests were at least the size of a child’s space funnel – or about 70cm across – and would cost hundreds of pounds to remove.
Ms. Ault, owner of an online business, said, “I live with my family in the family home. Last week we went to the attic for the first time – we hadn’t been there yet.

“We were here for five months, none of us had been in there because it goes through a small hole.
“We didn’t know we could get in there where we did.
‘It was a bit scary. There were those nests that were at least the size of a space hopper, three of them. They took up a lot of the room because it’s such a small space.
“The other owners of the house didn’t tell us about it beforehand. The brokers didn’t say, I don’t think they knew.
“It’s such a small space, we don’t really use it for anything.”
The family, who live in a three-story Victorian mansion, defied their fears and removed the nests by hand, only to find a number of insects dead inside.
Mrs Ault added: ‘It was most likely a house where the wasps lived and moved out of.
“We just took it apart and found loads of dead ones and none alive.
“It’s been about two weeks now, we could have paid a lot to get them moved professionally, but my mom and sister went in and moved it.
“It would have been at least a few hundred pounds to get them out if it wasn’t.”
