Families of Australian players help side celebrate World Test Cricket Championship win in London

As a pumped-up Australian cricket side celebrated a historic victory in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in London, families joined cheering players to celebrate victory in heartwarming scenes.

The match was dangerously placed going into the final day with Australia needing seven wickets and India needing 280 runs for an improbable victory at The Oval.

What happened next couldn’t have been more authoritative from the Aussies, with Scott Boland striking early to remove the dangerous Virat Kohli before the rest of the Indian batters folded like a pack of cards.

It means Australia is the first country to have won every ICC trophy – and the squad celebrated as such at the iconic London venue, before the party continued late into the night.

As soon as Lyon and Boland took the last wicket together on a shock shot from Mohammed Siraj, the Aussies embraced in joy after their historic triumph.

Skipper Pat Cummins lifted the WTC club and made sure the party eschewed the typical champagne showers of victory, so that Muslim teammate Usman Khawaja was not intoxicated.

The players’ partners and children then stormed to the ground as the side went on a victory lap – with hearts melting as Ayla Khawaja and Hallie Labuschagne donned their father’s famous baggy green caps.

Khawaja’s wife Rachel posted that eldest daughter Aisha was the ‘life of the party’ and wore a jersey with her father’s name in the dressing rooms after the win, with the family also posing for a sweet photo as Usman celebrated with a soft drink .

Milla Head, held by her superstar dad Travis and glamorous model wife Jessica, was transfixed by the stunning mace in the club rooms.

Head, of course, was named Man of the Match for his stunning 163 off just 174 balls in the first innings, for which he credited his wife thanks to their happy and steady lives off the pitch.

“I’m also in a nice little period of my life off the pitch right now and it all comes out in clarity and consistency in a really enjoyable team to play for,” he said after the match-winning knock.

And judging by his social media, Head was also perhaps the best performer off the field, posting a bunch of photos of him and his teammates partying into the early hours.

With his Man of the Match trophy in hand, the mid-order star could be seen enjoying some beers and partying alongside teammates Marcus Harris, Boland and close mate Alex Carey.

And of course there was a smashing edition of the team song – Under the Southern Cross – led as always by Lyon after the huge WTC victory.

The team gathered in a circle as they sang the victory song and raised the mace as they celebrated the triumph.

Australian women’s captain Alyssa Healy also enjoyed a beer on the pitch with husband Mitchell Starc.

Replacing Meg Lanning, Healy is preparing to lead the Aussies in the Women’s Ashes as the side guns for five straight series wins, which will begin with a T20 clash on July 1.

It will run concurrently with the blockbuster men’s series, where Starc will be a key part of the bowling rotation in what promises to be one of the most exciting Ashes in many years.

The start is just days away, with the first test taking place in Edgbaston from June 16, with five massive matches ending at The Oval on July 27.
