Fallen NRL star Jarryd Hayne was over the moon after Parramatta advanced to the grand final on October 2.

The former fullback – who remains on bail as he awaits a third trial for sexual assault in March next year – was in the mood to celebrate when the Eels defeated the Cowboys 24-20 at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Friday night.

It will be the first NRL decider for blue and gold since 2009.

Hayne, who made his NRL debut in 2006, shared on Instagram images of cars honking and Eels fans singing in the streets of Parramatta after the win from behind in Townsville.

“If you’re not (sic) from Sydney’s west, you wouldn’t understand,” he wrote.

“Guys don’t know what’s in next week! Best fan base in the country!

The 34-year-old also predicted that the Panthers will win the other NRL preliminary round final against South Sydney on Saturday night at Accor Stadium.

‘Eels v Panthers GF. Be one of the best eva! (sic) ‘Can we have the same ref and touchies next week! Cheers!’

Hayne played in the Parramatta grand final in 2009 at the hands of Melbourne, producing the best form of his career leading to the biggest game of the year.

The Storm was later sensationally stripped of the premiership for historic salary cap violations.

And as long-suffering fans will tell you, the Eels haven’t won a premiership since 1986, the longest drought in the NRL.

Last year a jury found Hayne – the one-time Dally M winner – guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in her Newcastle home at the 2018 NRL’s grand final.

At the peak of his prowess, Hayne virtually led Parramatta to the 2009 Grand Final - only to lose to the Melbourne Storm, who was later stripped of the premiership due to salary cap violations

Hayne has vehemently denied the allegations and maintained that the sexual encounter was consensual.

Hayne has twice stood before a jury over the allegations – his first trial in Newcastle in late 2020 resulted in a hung jury.

The second trial resulted in a guilty verdict on two counts of sexual assault, with Hayne jailed for: five years and nine months.

He ran free on February 15th after the appeals court overturned his conviction.

however, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) then confirmed a third trial, set on March 6, to Sydney Downing Centre.
