Fake tradie charged for allegedly pocketing $25,000 from people who booked him through job-tasking sites but he never did the work

A fake trader allegedly scammed more than $25,000 from customers after advertising himself on job apps but never completing the work.

The 31-year-old man from Doncaster East in Melbourne's northeast was arrested by Victoria Police detectives on Thursday.

Police allege he presented himself on various job platforms as a qualified trader under a false name and accepted payments for work he subsequently failed to complete.

The alleged violations, worth a total of $25,000, occurred in July.

The man was charged with two counts of theft and nine counts of fraud.

He was remanded to Ringwood Magistrates' Court on January 30.
