A young girl who was seriously injured after being hit by a car while crossing the road with her mother has made a miraculous recovery.
The girl, whose age has not been confirmed, was holding her mother’s hand as they walked across a zebra crossing at Fairfield Gardens, a shopping center in Brisbane’s south, about 1.10pm on Thursday when she was struck by a Mercedes GLE400 SUV.
She was rushed to Queensland Children’s Hospital with leg and abdominal injuries.
On Saturday, her mother shared an update on her daughter’s health on Facebook, thanking the local community for their concern and support.
“She is doing well and thankfully did not sustain any serious injuries and will hopefully be released from hospital within a few days,” her mother wrote.

“To everyone who was there to offer words of encouragement, to the people who quickly helped jack up the car, to the first responders and ambulance, and to the kind, dedicated staff at the hospital… we are very grateful.
“We reflect on how incredibly fortunate we are that we took action in such a timely manner, what a miracle it was that our daughter is doing well and that we have such a fantastic emergency and hospital system at our disposal.”
The mother added that the family has sent their well wishes to the female driver and that they hope the accident only brings their loving local community “more together.”

An employee of the Carpe Diem coffee shop heard the girl screaming as she walked from the location to her car.

“I saw the little one screaming in pain and her mother trying to tell her to calm down,” she told the newspaper Courier mail.
“She was bleeding from her mouth and had scratches on her face.”
“I wish I could have taken the car away from her. Where’s Superman when we need him?’
