Fairfield Gardens: Girl hit by car while holding her mum’s hand at a zebra crossing at Brisbane shopping centre

A seriously injured young girl has been rushed to hospital after she was hit and trapped under a car while crossing the road with her mother.

The girl, whose age has not been confirmed, held her mother’s hand as they walked across a zebra crossing at Fairfield Gardens, a shopping center in Brisbane’s south, about 1.10pm on Thursday.

Shocked bystanders came to the girl’s aid as they waited for emergency services to arrive.

One of the wheels had to be removed so rescuers could reach the girl who was trapped under the car.

It is understood the little girl was being treated for serious leg and abdominal injuries.

Paramedics, including high acuity and intensive care units, rushed her to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a serious condition.

Witnesses claimed they could hear the child’s screams “a mile away.” Courier mail reported.

An employee of the Carpe Diem coffee shop heard the girl screaming as she walked from the location to her car.

She ran to the scene and saw the child trapped under the car at the crosswalk.

“I saw the little one screaming in pain and her mother trying to tell her to calm down,” she said.

“She was bleeding from her mouth and had scratches on her face.”

“I wish I could have taken the car away from her. Where’s Superman when we need him?’

Police remained on scene for an hour after the accident and attempted to remove the car.
