Aussie mum is almost run over after Facebook Marketplace sale turns violent in Westfield carpark

A man was allegedly attacked and almost ran over his mother after trying to sell his Ford Falcon on Facebook Marketplace.

The 20-year-old man was allegedly punched and kicked in a car park on Signati Drive, near Westfield Helensvale on Queensland’s Gold Coast, at around 6pm on Sunday.

The man had arranged for his mother to drive him home after arranging an appointment with the online buyer of his gray Ford Falcon.

But the sale quickly soured when five teenage boys arrived in a white Holden ute and threatened to attack the man if he didn’t hand over the keys.

As he tried to flee the car park, he was caught by the group who allegedly punched and kicked the man before driving away in his Ford Falcon.

CCTV footage from the car park showed the man’s mother desperately trying to stop the group by blocking Holden Street with her body.

‘I need police now! You motherf******,” she is heard as they drive away.

Queensland Police Inspector Scott Knowles said the man’s mother had managed to take a photo of the ute’s registration plates amid the chaos.

However, when the police investigated, it turned out that the license plates were fake.

The Holden ute was found at a house in Longstaff Crescent, Pimpama, about 30km northwest of the Gold Coast, at 7.30pm on Sunday.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested by officers and charged with theft.

Police also found a phone that the boy allegedly used to film the entire exchange.

He remained in custody overnight on Sunday and appeared at Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police are still trying to track down the Ford Falcon as the investigation continues.
