Facebook and Instagram can now use AI to answer questions about your photos and edit them too
Mark Zuckerberg announced a bunch of cool AI features at Meta Connect 2024 that apply to Meta AI, the chatbot found in his popular social media apps like Facebook, Instagram DM, WhatsApp, and Messenger. One of the coolest new features he unveiled is the ability to ask questions about and edit photos in Meta AI.
Meta AI is now multi-modal, meaning it can “see” photos in your chats and answer questions about them. So you can simply drop a picture of a bird into your chat with Meta AI and ask it what kind of bird you’re looking at and it will give you the correct answer. But it goes beyond just identifying animals and plants. Show it a picture of a meal and ask it how you would make it and it will give you a list of instructions and ingredients.
Intelligent backgrounds
One of the most fun things you can do with AI is manipulate your photos. This doesn’t just mean adding an Instagram filter or changing the brightness levels. AI lets you do things to your photos that otherwise wouldn’t be possible, like adding or removing elements or changing the background.
Even more impressive is that Meta AI can now edit your photos too. That means if you want to remove someone from a photo, you can have Meta AI do it for you. Or maybe you just want to change the background to something else? No problem, Meta AI can do that too. It can even add things to your photos, so if you want to stand next to a lion, you can do so without risking your life. If you want to see what you would look like in a different outfit, Meta AI is your new fashion consultant.
And if you want to share a photo from your Instagram feed to your Instagram Story, Meta AI’s new background feature can intelligently choose a background that matches the image in your story.
We expect Meta AI users to gain the ability to view and edit photos in the coming month.
