Fabio Capello has hit Kalidou Koulibaly for playing with ‘no personality’ since joining Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

The Senegalese international played the full 90 minutes on Wednesday and helped the Blues keep a clean sheet in their 3-0 Champions League win over AC Milan.

Despite a positive night at Stamford Bridge, Capello suggested that Koulibaly is not as effective as he was at Napoli.

He told Sky Sports Italy, according to the Subway: ‘At Chelsea he has no personality. When he has the ball at his feet, he hesitates. He doesn’t play fast, he doesn’t do what he did at Napoli.

“At Napoli he commanded, he came forward, he made long passes, now he has the ball between his feet, he doesn’t know who to pass and he always plays passes to someone just a few meters away.

“Actually, he surprises me. I thought he had a great personality and for Chelsea he would be very important and explode immediately. And yet, right now, he isn’t.’

Koulibaly has been a fixture at Chelsea since his arrival, although he stayed on the bench this weekend for their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

He also missed the match against Leicester in August after being sent off for two yellow cards in their heavy 3-0 defeat to Leeds.

After dropping Koulibaly from the game against Palace, manager Graham Potter told Chelsea’s official website: “I’m really impressed with him.

“As a person, he is honest and understands his situation in terms of waiting a while to play. Any player will say they’re not happy about that, but it’s how you react. His response was fantastic, very hardworking, very honest and he trained really well.

“He comes from a club and a country that he was very familiar with and felt comfortable with. Making the step to the Premier League is not that easy.

“Things have happened with changes at the club, so it’s not the perfect situation for him, but he’s a top player and a top person. He will play an important role for us with that character, that’s for sure.’

On Wednesday, another Chelsea defender suffered a blow after Wesley Fofana ran off with a knee injury in the first half and had to leave the stadium on crutches.

“We’ll have to scan it tomorrow and see how it is,” Potter said after Chelsea’s win over AC Milan.

“I wouldn’t speculate on it right now, but we’re concerned and hoping for the best.

‘We will support him, but we don’t know yet, tomorrow we will get the scan results. Fingers crossed. There is nothing to report at the moment, but it was the only disappointment of the evening.’
