Gabriel Magalhaes and Jordan Henderson have both been acquitted of any wrongdoing following an investigation by the Football Association into their altercation earlier this month.

Both sets of players collided in the second half of Arsenal’s win over Liverpool, moments after referee Michael Oliver awarded the Gunners their decisive penalty amid angry scenes on the pitch.

Gabriel and Henderson, along with six other players, were interviewed as part of a ‘thorough investigation’, but the FA are convinced there is no case to answer.

It is clear that Gabriel was upset over a comment he thought he heard on the pitch, but the FA have now closed the investigation with no further action.

A statement from the FA read: “The FA has received a complaint about an incident involving two players in this match. Following the complaint, the FA launched a full and thorough investigation.

“The investigation involved taking witness statements from the complainant and accused, along with a further six players who were in the vicinity of the alleged incident, viewing multiple angles of video footage and seeking evidence from independent language experts.

None of the witnesses heard the alleged remark and the accused player has denied the allegation the entire time.

While the FA is fully convinced that the allegation was made in good faith, it is equally convinced that there is no reason to reply.

“The FA continues to take all allegations received extremely seriously and would encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of or witnessed abuse to report it through the appropriate channels. The FA receives a number of complaints per season and thoroughly investigates each complaint.

“After considering all the evidence received, not all cases will lead to charges.”

Tempers flared as players from both sides became involved and referee Oliver spoke to managers Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp on the sidelines, although neither set out the cause during their post-match press conferences.

Bukayo Saka eventually converted the penalty into the home side’s win and the FA later confirmed they were reviewing the incident.
