- NRL’s nine-week sanction has been leaked
- Mom has five days to respond to the competition
NRL fans have slammed the NRL as cowardly and weak over the leaked nine-week ban that will be handed to Brisbane Broncos star Ezra Mam after he pleaded guilty to taking a cocktail of drugs when he crashed into another car and seriously injured four. year old girl.
Mum was issued an NRL infringement notice on Monday for bringing both the game and the Broncos into disrepute, following his high-profile driving charges in October.
Mom was banned from driving for six months and fined $850 after pleading guilty to driving with drugs in his system and without a license, following a head-on collision with an Uber.
A four-year-old girl was hospitalized with a broken hip as a result of the accident.
The NRL has issued a breach notice but has withheld details of further sanctions pending Mam’s response.
However, it has been leaked that the NRL is planning to impose a nine-match ban – a punishment many believe is not nearly good enough.

‘It’s so hard to be a NRL fan. Ezra Mam is fined for almost killing someone. Ashamed. I don’t watch it anymore. I’m done,” one fan wrote.
“The NRL’s nine-week ban on Ezra Mam is not strict enough for drug driving and hospitalizing a four-year-old child with a broken hip while unlicensed. It should have taken at least 12 to 15 weeks,” veteran journalist Buzz Rothfield wrote on X.
The NRL’s position has also been compared to the ban imposed on Sydney Roosters forward Spencer Leniu, who was handed an eight-match ban for allegedly calling Mam a racial slur during their match in Las Vegas to open the 2024 season.
‘Spencer Leniu was suspended for eight games for swearing. Ezra Mam faces nine weeks for driving without a license, causing an accident. His driver’s license has been suspended three times. Seriously, the NRL is an absolute joke if it only gets nine weeks,” one fan told X.
‘Child glove treatment from @andrewabdo & the NRL. Too bad,” another posted.
‘Ezra Mam brings a four-year-old child to the hospital after a drug addiction. He is a disgrace to the NRL and his team and should be banned for life,” said another.
Following a court ruling and an NRL sanction seen as lenient, others are calling on the NRL crowd and even opposition players to take the law into their own hands.
‘I hope that every attacker will get Ezra Mam up to speed and into trouble from round 10 onwards. “If he doesn’t get a proper punishment off the field, every player with kids on him should go after him,” suggested one concerned NRL supporter.
‘Let people speak about this. Every time Ezra comes near Mam. The play, the audience should boo him wildly. Nothing personal, certainly nothing racist. Just give him a swear word to let him, his team and the NRL know he’s not welcome,” another posted.
Footy fans have taken to social media to complain about what they see as a shamefully soft suspension for Mam

The NRL will not allow Mam to serve part of his suspension in the pre-season All-Stars match, meaning the full ban would have to be imposed at Brisbane.
Players can normally apply to have representative matches count towards a suspension, including the pre-season All-Stars match.
Both Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr have currently submitted applications to the NRL to do just that, following their current bans regarding off-field matters.
But it is understood he will not have the option to count the match as part of his suspension as the five-eighth has never played in the representative match before.
It means if he accepts the ban, Mam will not be able to return for Brisbane’s Magic Round match with Penrith.
Instead, he will have to wait another week to return against South Sydney in Round 10 on May 9 at Accor Stadium.
Mom has five days to respond to the infringement notice.
