The NRL extravaganza in Las Vegas has been marred after a footy star was allegedly subjected to racist abuse by another player on Sunday.
Sydney Roosters’ Spencer Leniu is alleged to have called Brisbane rival Ezra Mam ‘a monkey’ during his side’s win over Brisbane at Allegiant Stadium.
The Broncos youngster made a complaint against Leniu mid-match and was ‘adamant’ the former Penrith made a comment that was ‘racial in nature’.
“He called me a monkey!” You could hear mom saying to referee Adam Gee.
The incident led to a fight between the two groups of players as the Roosters led 14-10 during the second half.
‘It’s getting a bit tense here in the middle. It’s Spencer Leniu who just took Lindsay Collins to the back to calm down,” Mick Ennis said in Fox Sport’s coverage of the big match.

“If he’s not careful, Spencer Leniu, he might get the disappearing act.”
After the fight, referee Gee called over Brisbane captain Adam Reynolds and his Roosters counterpart James Tedesco.
“Ezra has filed a formal complaint that is racist in nature against Spencer, I haven’t heard it, the incident is being reported and it will be dealt with afterwards, that’s what it leaves,” Gee said.
Jonathan Thurston said on Nine that Mum was left in tears after the incident, adding: ‘We’ve had two great football games and now we have to deal with this.’
Leniu was asked about the accusation after the Roosters’ 20-10 win but appeared to shrug off the accusation.
“No, nothing, it’s just all fun and games when we’re on the field,” Leniu said.
When asked if he was concerned about a possible sanction he faced, he said: “Not concerned at all.”
Broncos coach Kevin Walters says Mom is “adamant” he heard what he believes was said
Brisbane coach Kevin Walters said emotions were high in the Broncos dressing room.
“He’s quite upset… but we’ll leave that to the police to the NRL and judge it, but we certainly support Ezra and our player and everything around that,” Walters said.
“He is adamant (it was said). But we’ll leave it to the NRL, they’ll look at it. I won’t comment further on it other than to say we support our player, and rightly so.
‘Certainly, I am (angry). We certainly don’t condone it in our club, but again, it’s not our job and we won’t answer any more questions other than to support Ezra in every way we can.”
