Pennsylvania police have launched an urgent manhunt after a convicted murderer escaped from jail Thursday morning, just a week after being convicted of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death.

Danelo Cavalcante, 34, fled Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township, Pennsylvania, around 8:30 a.m.

Police described him as “extremely dangerous” and said he is five feet tall and weighs 110 pounds. When he stabbed his ex-girlfriend Deborah Brandao, 33, to death in 2021, he was also wanted for murder in his home country of Brazil.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with gray shorts and white sneakers, and police are urging the public to call 911 if they have any information on his whereabouts.

West Chester public information officer Dave March said police have launched an extensive search and are looking “everywhere” for the convicted killer following his sudden disappearance.

The escape was confirmed by District Attorney Deborah Ryan, who said it is unclear how Cavalcante was able to escape. He was last seen walking down a road in Pocopson Township, she said, about three miles from the jail.

On August 16, Cavalcante appeared in court charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Brandao, with whom he had been dating for two years.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, he killed his ex-girlfriend with a kitchen knife he had used earlier that day to cut meat in preparation for a barbecue.

Jurors heard he was angry with Brandao for threatening to report him to the police over his alleged criminal past in Brazil. At the time of the stabbing, he was also wanted for murder in his home country.
